Why this is different from a normal movement assessment

A movement screen tells you what is restricted. It rarely explains why — and the restriction is not the cause. It is the result of a strategy the system adopted, a constraint it adapted to, a way of managing pressure when a better option was not available.

Movement Strategy Analysis looks at what is behind the restriction. How does the body organise pressure? What shape does it use to contain and redirect force? What positions is it starting from, and what is the system currently solving that produces the pattern you see?

What the assessment covers

Positional Strategy

How your body positions its centre of gravity and organises its base of support — the foundation that determines what movement options are available.

Shape Behaviour

How the system organises itself to contain and redirect internal pressure under load — whether it yields and reorganises, or stiffens and compensates.

Available Movement Options

What the system can access cleanly, what it reaches through compensation, and what is genuinely unavailable at this point in time.

Constraint Drivers

Not just what is restricted, but what is driving the restriction — the upstream reason the limitation exists.

Training Direction

A coherent direction based on your specific strategy and findings — not a generic programme, but a clear starting point.

Video Report

A full video breakdown of the findings, your strategy and the recommended direction, delivered after the session.

Methodology

DVOTION Labs uses the UHPC framework developed by Bill Hartman — a practitioner-level model for understanding human performance through position, pressure management, base of support and movement strategy. Only a limited number of practitioners in London work within this model. DVOTION Labs has two of them.

Equipment: high-frame-rate video for frame-by-frame breakdown of shape behaviour and positional strategy. Force plate data adds an objective layer showing weight distribution and how pressure is managed when the system meets resistance.

Frequently asked questions

What is Movement Strategy Analysis?

A strategy-based assessment that looks at how your body organises pressure, shape and position to produce movement. It identifies what options the system currently has access to, what is restricting those options, and why the restriction exists.

Do I receive a video report?

Yes. You receive a full video report after the session explaining the findings, the movement strategy identified, and what training direction is recommended.

Should I combine this with Power Output Assessment?

These two assessments work well together. Movement Strategy Analysis explains how the body organises movement. Power Output Assessment shows how force is being produced. Combined, they reveal whether output is being generated through an efficient strategy or a compensatory one.

Is this suitable if I am not injured?

Yes. Most athletes who use this assessment are not injured — they want to understand their movement strategy to train more effectively.
