What we measure

Aerobic ceiling

VO₂ max absolute and relative to body weight, and velocity or power at VO₂ max (vVO₂max / pVO₂max).

Training thresholds

LT1 — the ceiling of genuine Zone 2. LT2 — maximum sustainable steady-state effort. The exact intensities that define your real training zones.

Fuel use

FatMax — the heart rate where fat oxidation peaks. Substrate oxidation curve. Carbohydrate requirement at target race pace.

Baseline data

Resting metabolic rate and daily energy needs. Sweat rate and hydration guidance. Heart rate recovery kinetics.

How it works

01 Arrive: Quick intake on training background and goals. Kit up with the metabolic mask and lactate sampling kit.

02 Test: Progressive incremental effort — intensity builds in stages while the system captures breath-by-breath data and blood lactate response at each level.

03 Report: Full results breakdown before you leave. Written report with your zones, thresholds, fuel targets and training implications.

Equipment: KORR CardioCoach Max — breath-by-breath gas analysis with fingertip blood lactate sampling at each stage.

What you receive

Consolidated written report. 1:1 consultation on the day. Report delivered within 24 hours of the session.

Frequently asked questions

What is this test actually for?

It is for athletes who want their training built on clinical data. The test gives you your actual aerobic ceiling, lactate thresholds, and fuelling and pacing guidance informed by your measured response.

Do I need to be fit to take the test?

No. The protocol adapts to your fitness level. You do not need to be fast to benefit from knowing exactly how your body works.

What is FatMax and why does it matter for racing?

FatMax is the exact intensity where fat burning peaks before your body shifts to carbohydrate dependency. Knowing it lets us calculate how many grams of carbohydrate per hour you actually need at race pace.

How much does it cost and how long does it take?

£350 for the full session — approximately 1 hour including setup, testing and results review.

How often should I retest?

Every 12–16 weeks gives a meaningful read on how your physiology is adapting to training.
